South Fayette Township is located in Allegheny County, approximately 16 miles southwest of the city of Pittsburgh.
South Fayette offers access to many parks throughout the township. You will find playgrounds, picnic tables, sports fields and courts, pavilions, trails and a dog park. The township also organizes a lot of community events, including a community day and movies in the park.
South Fayette Township was officially established on March 16, 1842. Throughout its early history, it was the site of many conflicts between the Native American residents and arriving settlers. In 1770, it is rumored that George Washington acquired 2,800 acres in the area which is now known as the Hickory Heights community in the southwest corner of the Township. Today, South Fayette is a fast growing community due to its convenient location from Pittsburgh, Southpointe, and the Pittsburgh International Airport.
The South Fayette School District is a small public school district that only serves the residents of South Fayette Township. The district operates one elementary school, one intermediate, one middle, and one high school.
