The North Allegheny School District covers many communities in an area north of Pittsburgh in Allegheny County commonly known as the “North Hills”. The largest of these is probably McCandless Township which has been highly ranked among Money magazines “Best Places to Live”.
McCandless offers many parks throughout its borders. There are a variety of playgrounds, sports fields & courts, walking trails and a fishing pond. One of the biggest attractions in this area is Allegheny County’s North Park which features a 65 acre lake, pool, golf course, dog park, trails and picnic shelters.
McCandless was founded as a township in 1851. It was originally a farming community and was an important supply route during the War of 1812 for transportation of war materials from Pittsburgh to Lake Erie. Between 1930 and 1950, the town nearly doubled its population and was well on its way to becoming the thriving community that it is today.
The North Allegheny School District serves McCandless Township as well at the communities of Marshall Township, Bradford Woods and Franklin Park. It is a large, public school district that offers seven elementary schools, three middle, and two high schools. Six of their schools have received the National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence Award.
There is a home for everyone in the North Allegheny School District. The area offers new houses for sale, existing small homes, modern homes, ranch style homes as well as larger 5 bedroom houses and even homes with a pool!
