Peters Township is located 12 miles south of Pittsburgh in the beautiful rolling hills of Washington County.
The township has over 513 acres of outdoor recreational land which encompasses 7 Parks and the Arrowhead Trail, which is part of the larger Montour Trail. Peterswood Park, which is the 2nd largest in the township, features numerous sports fields, an outdoor amphitheater; which is used frequently throughout the season with concerts, theater and movies being offered; and also allows you multiple point access to the Arrowhead Trail. Peters also features Peters Lake Park which offers a fishing pier, 2 boat launches and a .75 walking trail around the perimeter.
Peters Township was incorporated in 1781, and was one of the original townships in Washington County. Although coal became a major industry here, it was initially a farming community, with a sparse, rural population, until the 1950’s when the population & growth started to increase and continues to this day.
Today Peters is an affluent suburb of Pittsburgh with a thriving population of both young and old. Many of the people who grew up in Peters remain in the community, and there is an influx of families that come to take advantage of the highly rated public school system with consistently ranks among the best in Pennsylvania.
