The Pine Richland School District consists of Pine Township and Richland Township and is located 20 miles north of the city of Pittsburgh.
There are multiple parks in both communities. In Pine, there is a community park which includes pavilions, athletic fields and courts, playgrounds, and the Pine Community Center which offers fitness programs, gymnasiums, and a walking track. Richland offers all of the same along with a dek hockey rink, bocce court, and walking/hiking trails.
The Township of Pine was established in 1796. Farming was the predominant occupation of the early settlers. Richland Township was originally part of Pine Township and was named for its fertile soil.
The Pine Richland School District is a medium sized public school serving the residents of Pine and Richland Townships. The district offers three elementary, one upper elementary, one middle and one high school. They also offer a dual enrollment program that allows students to take courses at local higher education institutions to earn college credits while still in high school.
The homes in Pine Township and nearby Richland Township are mostly medium sized 3 and 4 bedroom homes, however, there are also larger newer construction homes, with the occasional fixer upper entering the market.
